The main character in the book Wonder is August. He is an ordinary 10 year old, except for the fact that he has had 27 surgeries since he was born, also that he was born with a face that you'd call "deformed". So, I take that back, he is not very ordinary. His family consists of his mom and dad, and his older sister Via. August is a nice kid that is sort of insecure about how he looks. He just wants to fit in with all the other children. "If I found a magic lamp and I could have one wish, I would wish that I had a normal face that no on ever noticed at all" August quoted. He is static. He stays humble throughout everything. For example, when his friends did not invite him to birthday parties, he did not do anything bad to them or start hating them. Also, if someone stares at his face in disgust he pretends to not notice.
In the book Flat Broke, 14 year old Kevin lied very much to everyone which resulted in everyone either "teaching him a lesson" or simply getting mad at him. The main conflict being he is no longer getting paid for anything and he needs money to ask his crush, Tina Zabinski, out on a date. His parents took away his allowance for a month. He worked for his Auntie Buzz at her interior decorating business which is not bringing in the money like it used to, the reason being because his aunt was also mad at him. This is both an internal and external conflict because inside, he wants to ask his crush out but on the outside he cannot do anything about it because he does not have money. " My parents are teaching me a lesson: Since you lied, we're taking away your allowance for a month" said Kevin -page 5. Kevin asked his aunt "Are you teaching me a lesson too? Because of the way I lied to you, um, to everyone?" And his aunt replied with "No. I'm just mad at you."
Yanek Gruener is a Jewish boy in 1930's Poland. He was a sweet, sensitive boy who wanted to please people. For example, he put on a show on his projector for his family and was very proud of himself when he made his father laugh which is hard to do. He is a dynamic character because to start with he was a happy boy but overtime with the Jews and German situation, he became a less spirited person. "They loved my shows, and I loved putting them on for them. I was never prouder than when I got my father to laugh!" Yanek said this when he put a show on for them with his projector. Then later on in the story, school was taken from the Jews. He then got sent home from school and his mother asked why he is home from school so early. "It's closed," he told her feeling depressed. Another example of why he is a dynamic character is because he used to talk about going to America. "Maybe one day I would go to America and work in the movies" he thought to himself. Then he also found out that he could not even go to the movie theater and other places. He said that his heart sank when he heard he was not allowed to attend any movie theater. All these new rules were very big disappointments to him.
